South Salem to get Community Meeting Hall
At the summer congregational meeting, members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church approved the use of part of the 11-acre campus on Baxter Road in South Salem for a community hall. The facility will include much needed meeting space for scouting activities, sports teams, business groups and community organizations. The impetus for the project was first to provide outdoor restrooms for the proposed sports field. The project then grew in scope and found enthusiastic partners in both community groups, such as scouts, and contractors, who were already working on the new church. The project will be undertaken primarily by volunteers, using donations of labor and materials from the community. “We already have the designs and plans donated and completed and have secured the appropriate permits. We also have commitments for clearing the land, concrete cutting, electrical, heating/cooling and landscaping, but we will need much more,” said committee member, Dr. Ed Merzenich a local dentist. The 3750 sq. ft. facility will have a planned capacity for 175
people and will include kitchen, office, conference room and storage as
well as a large indoor/outdoor fireplace. Outside, there will be
a picnic area, sports field and restroom facilities. The team expects
to break ground in the late fall.
Tax deductible donations for materials or labor are gladly accepted
by the building committee. For information call Communication Coordinator,
